Traditions on Introduction
The introduction, as the people called the holiday for short, is a very important day for our ancestors. The fact is that it marked a turning point in the year, Introduction – the gates of Winter.
In the Ukrainian tradition, the Introduction closes the autumn cycle and begins the winter season, with which most of the beliefs and traditions are connected: for example, before the Introduction, it was possible, for example, to dig the earth or store clay, and after that, right up to the Annunciation itself, this was forbidden.
Before the Introduction, they tried to complete all the autumn work that appeared after the harvest. As at Christmas, the appearance of the first guest in the house on the day of the Introduction was important – it depended on him what kind of winter would be – good or evil, friendly or dangerous.
