How it works?

Everything is pretty simple:

  1. Go to the project website using this link .
  2. Choose the location where you want to scream. While this article is being written, several locations are available: Djupivogur (East Iceland), Festarfjall (Reykjanes, Iceland), Skogarfoss (South Iceland), Snaefellsjokull in West Iceland, Videy (Reykjavik, Iceland), Raudasandur (Vestfjord, Iceland). Kalfshamarsvik in North Iceland is not yet online.
  3. Click on the big and round yellow button.
  4. Scream or talk, you can even whisper.
  5. Send a shout.
  6. It will play in the selected location.
  7. ?????

What does the psychologist say?

The site also features a message from Zoë Aston, a therapist, and mental health consultant. She says it’s a very beneficial way to vent negativity, and what’s more, it’s natural to yell:

“Part of the beneficial effect of screaming comes from the ability to make a loud noise in a wide, open, still space. It literally allows your amygdala to release the tension built up there and move forward.”

She also gave advice on proper shouting to make the session more productive:

  1. Think about what your cry will be. Some people yell, some use words or even breath.
  2. Stand up, spread your legs shoulder-width apart, slightly bending your knees. Relax your shoulders and you can put your hands on your hips or on your stomach.
  3. Imagine a child who is screaming. The scream must come from within.
  4. Take a few deep breaths before you start.

But the main advice is to definitely turn to a professional if you really need professional help.
