It would seem that he had been ill with a coronavirus and lived in peace, but that was not the case. In the world, cases of re-infection with COVID-19 are gaining momentum, as reported by doctors from different countries. The World Health Organization commented on the issue.

Usually, after a viral disease, a person develops immunity to the disease and can no longer become infected. It is protected by antibodies that have arisen during the body’s struggle with the antigen. However, with the coronavirus, things seem to be different.

When a patient with COVID-19 recovers, they should be tested twice for the virus with a negative result, as recommended by the World Health Organization. Moreover, the analyzes are carried out at intervals of at least 24 hours before the person is discharged from the hospital. However, there have been recent cases of re-infection.

So, in South Korea, 91 people fell ill with coronavirus again. The patients had to be discharged from the hospital after two screening tests. The first showed a negative result, but the second turned out to be positive. What is the reason for the return of the disease, the doctors do not know.

It turns out that cured patients can catch the disease again, and the development of immunity in them remains in question. This was also stated by one of the WHO representatives Michael Ryan at a press conference in Geneva.

“As for recovery and re-infection, we, I believe, do not have an answer to this question. It’s unknown.”

The WHO also believes that only the creation of a safe and effective vaccine will help achieve the final victory over COVID-19.

In turn, scientists do not exclude that those who have recovered from COVID-19 may develop insufficiently strong immunity that could protect against re-infection. There is also a chance of a return of the disease if the virus in the body was not completely destroyed.

Coronavirus infection is something new for humanity, so doctors are still understanding the nature of the disease and its impact on humans. When the pandemic subsides, experts from different countries will study the body of people who have recovered from coronavirus in mild and severe forms. Only then will it become clear whether immunity from the disease arises.

Meanwhile, doctors strongly recommend that people who have already recovered be careful and attentive to their health, continue to observe quarantine and disease prevention measures – wear masks, wash hands thoroughly and use antiseptics. Still, there is a possibility of re-infection.

Recall that 3372 laboratory-confirmed cases of coronavirus disease have already been recorded in Ukraine. The number of infected is growing every day, and in the next two weeks, which fall on the celebration of Easter, experts predict a peak in the incidence of COVID-19. Watch your health, follow the rules of quarantine and disease prevention.
