Smartphone charging with almost no waiting time – this is what Chinese manufacturers are showing at the MWC in Barcelona. The question of the long-term service life of the Express batteries remains.
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) has been running in Barcelona since yesterday ( W&V reported ). After two years of Corona, the world’s largest mobile communications trade fair is celebrating its comeback in front of an audience. This time, however, it will be overshadowed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as a result of which some events have been canceled or severely curtailed. For example, Deutsche Telekom canceled its presentation of the music mix created by artificial intelligence from Robbie Williams’ “Angels” and Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata”, which was planned for yesterday. The ambitious Chinese manufacturers in particular shone with new products at the start. Oppo has presented new charging technology that almost completely eliminates the need to wait for the smartphone battery to be charged.
From 1 percent to 100 percent in 15 minutes
In Barcelona, the Chinese presented their further developed “SuperVOOC” fast charging standard with a charging capacity of 150 watts, which takes a cell phone battery with the usual 4,500 mAh capacity from 1 percent to 50 percent in five minutes and from 1 percent to 1 percent in 15 minutes 100 percent. The technology is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2022 in a new smartphone from the subsidiary OnePlus. And that’s far from the end of the road. Oppo also showed the concept of a fast charger that works at 240 watts in Barcelona. This should bring a 4,500 mAh battery from 1 percent to 100 percent in just nine minutes. For comparison: The iPhone 13 Pro charges 50 percent in 30 minutes with a 20-watt power adapter. Customers also have to pay extra for such an adapter.
